Terms and Brochure Pack for Lomeshaye Village Day Nursery

Aims of Lomeshaye Village Day Nursery

As a parent we all want to provide our children with the right start to life. To enable them to release their own individual potential in the right environment is crucial.

At Lomeshaye nursery we aim to create a foundation for this by providing a caring and secure environment in which they can learn and play through contrasting combinations of structured and free play.

Their day is interspersed with activities such as creative, physical, imaginative and intellectual play. This is balanced with free play where they can choose their own play activity, moving around freely, making choices and building and developing their own friendships. As each child progresses through nursery they gain confidence in preparation for that all-important first day at school.

We divide the nursery into three areas on the special needs of each group.

Babies

Our baby room is designed to cater for children from 3 months to 2 years old. Our aim is to provide a home from home environment where your child will enjoy lots of love and cuddles from qualified nursery nurses. This well equipped environment is arranged to meet every individual need of your child.

We will work closely with you to arrange your child’s daily routine to ensure continuity of care. An ongoing record of progress is kept as your baby grows and develops.

Our wide range of stimulating toys and activities will encourage all stages of development during these formative years, and fresh air and exercise will be provided during outdoor play in our playground, nursery allotment or during walks in the local environment.

In the baby room we follow the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage guidance. This provides the staff working within the room with a framework and guidelines to work from and plan with.

The room incorporates several areas. These include a comfy cosy area, an imaginary area, an exploratory area and an area for physical development. These areas help the child to develop their skills at their own pace.

Babies are assigned a key worker who is responsible for the child’s basic and emotional needs e.g. nappy changing, feeding and comforting. This helps the child to settle and feel calm and comforted whilst in our care.

When your child is ready to move into the next room, the nursery nurse/key-worker will accompany him of her on visits to ensure a smooth transition.

Tiny Trumpets music group is also available in this group.

Toddlers

This group comprises of the 2-3 year olds. The room is split up into different areas of continuous provision including construction toys, a mark making area, a workshop, a role-play corner. These areas are accessible to the children throughout the day during free play sessions.

The toddlers as the babies have a key worker assigned to them. This gives the child the emotional support they need to develop as they learn through interactions with adults. The key-worker will observe and plan activities to aid development and assist with each child’s needs.

Practitioners working within the toddler group follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and use observations as the key to their planning. They observe their key children and decide how best to develop that child’s skills from their current level. The practitioners then give the child support and guidance to further their development and build on what they know. The children have access to the areas of continuous provision at all times so that they can access all resources and equipment. Practitioners then work with the children in all areas to help develop their skills. Young children learn to be independent by having someone they can depend upon.

The majority of toilet training also takes place within this group, expanding each child’s independence.

By the time they leave this group we aim to have provided each child with the basic knowledge of colour, shape number as a basis for the more in depth activities covered by the pre-school group.

Tiny trumpets music group is also run in this group.

Fresh air and exercise will be provided during outdoor play in our playground, nursery allotment and during walks in the local environment.

Pre-School Group

This group caters for 3 to 5 year olds. Our aim is to promote all aspects of child development through play based activities and the continuous provision.

The pre school group follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum Guidance, observing each child and planning activities to further development and skills.

The pre-school room is split into different areas of continuous provision with most toys and equipment on low level shelving to enable children to self select. Practitioners encourage learning through play. Allowing children to learn through play is how they learn best and helping them to build self-confidence without forcing them to do things that they don’t wish to.

Each child is assigned a key-worker who will monitor and encourage their development. They will record their findings in the Child’s Record of Achievement and hold regular meetings with parents to discuss developmental progress.

French lessons are available for children in this group.

Children also go to the local dancing studio for dancing lessons twice a week.

Fresh air and exercise will be provided during outdoor play in our playground, nursery allotment or during walks in the local environment.

Lomeshaye Nursery is open all year round with the exception Good Friday, Easter Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and News Years Day. But it is open all other bank holidays. Every child is entitled to 2 weeks a year (between January and December) with 50% discount. To obtain the discount four weeks prior notice must be given in writing, and it must be a whole consecutive week.

Payments

Nursery fees are required in advance and must be paid by the last working day of each month, otherwise a daily charge of £5 will be added to your fees. If the fees remain unpaid for a period of 14 days the nursery reserves the right to cancel the child’s place. Any payment made by cheque or standing order that returns to the nursery unpaid will then accrue a bank charge, which will be added to your next invoice.

Sessions

Parents must give 4 weeks notice before their child leaves nursery, or 4 weeks fees must be paid. If a child is absent for any reason full fees are payable. If at any time you wish to decrease your child’s permanent sessions, 4 weeks notice in writing is needed.

As the nursery runs under strict child/staff ratios it is very important that children are not dropped off early and are not picked up late without prior arrangement, late pick up charges may of £9 for every 15 minutes, with the exception of after 6pm, which it will then be £5 every 5 minutes, this is purely to cover the cost of the staff that have to remain at work.

Questions answered

We thought you would like to know what questions parents most frequently ask.

These are not in any special order.

What happens with regard to pre-admissions visits?

All children and parents / carers are invited to visit the nursery prior to admission. This gives both child and parents an opportunity to get to know the staff and time for the child to bond with their key worker. We usually offer two one hour sessions free of charge just before the child is due to start nursery, the first one we encourage parents to stay and complete the “About me” booklet and get to know the key worker, the second visit is your opportunity to leave your child before their first day. Please ask for more details.

How secure is the nursery?

Naturally there is close supervision at all times. The nursery doors are locked at all times and the outside gates are secured before activities. The playground is also checked for any hazards.

How can I be certain that my child only leaves the nursery with me or a person I have sent?

Parents / carers are asked who will be the person(s) collecting on a regular basis on admission. We also ask parents to inform staff if anyone other than yourself  will be picking up and operate a password system. If we were at all unsure we would ring you.

How long is your waiting list?

This varies with your requirements and we will tell you the situation as you are shown round.

Would I be notified if any of the nursery children was diagnosed as having an infectious disease?

A notice will be displayed on the parent’s information board and all the necessary precautions taken.

Do I have to register for a place?

It is advised to reserve a place, the earlier you do so the better chance you have of obtaining the sessions you require.

Is there an extra charge for meals?

If your child is at nursery when the meals are being served then it is included within the fees, there is no extra charge.

If I was late arriving at the nursery in the evening what would happen?

Firstly, don’t panic, we will welcome a telephone call but understand that sometimes that is not possible. We will arrange for two members of staff to wait until you arrive.

Where do the majority of the families live who attend the nursery?

Most of our families live within a 5 mile radius of the nursery, however we do have some that travel many more!!

How often do you have a fire drill?

Every month, and we can evacuate the nursery quickly and safely. Registers are checked to ensure that no one is hiding.

What would happen in an emergency say if my child had an accident?

It depends on level of accident. Parents would be contacted and a member of the management team would make the decision as to whether to call a doctor or ambulance. As part of training we aim to ensure we can deal with emergencies and all our staff hold a paediatric first aid qualification.

How many children are you registered for?

Our registration certificate is situated in the entrance hall. We are registered for 90 children, 27 of those can be under 2.

How do you cater for children who have special dietary needs?

When you register and have your settling in visits you will be asked if you have any special dietary requirements and we will accommodate them, there is a vegetarian option each meal.

What do I pay in the event of my child being absent?

In common with most nurseries in the area we charge full rates as we still have to keep your place open.

I have been asked to work more hours than I originally intended, is that a problem?

Ask and we will do our best to accommodate you.

You will have many more questions, so please ask away…..
